I'll start with the overall rating for the novel - 6/10

(7/10 if you're newer to wuxia/xianxia style novels)

--UPDATED FOR FIRST 70 CHAPTERS--

(Review itself is unchanged as the comments/scores still apply, just changed "first 20" to "first 70")

tl;dr - good novel (so far) that is approachable with some standard tropes and seems to be following a typical power fantasy wuxia/xianxia novel. Novel doesn't have any special features nor major drawing points at present, but it also has no downsides - just a good light reading novel typical of the genre.

I've seen a couple chapter comments describing this novel as a "popcorn novel" which honestly is a pretty apt description for it - if you've never tried popcorn before then with a bit of butter and salt it becomes a rather pleasant snack but it can get old. That is how I'd describe this novel.

The translation is good with no glaring grammatical issues, the style of the translation itself is a touch different than what I'm used to from Wuxiaworld (WW) but that is purely my personal feeling and not a reflection of the novel itself or the quality of the translation. This mainly comes from some of the formatting/hyperlink choices; there are other translators/novels that have had similar styles on WW that I've come across but they aren't on the novels I tend to read (I like when the author/translator incorporates descriptions into the world building/dialogue instead of requiring separate notes).

Regarding the novel/story, as mentioned above its nothing special nor is it anything bad - it is purely light reading which can occupy a part of your day where you can kick back, relax, and "eat a little popcorn" as one might put it.

If WW allowed a numerical rating system instead of the 100% or 0%, I'd happily give this novel something in the mid 60's. Assuming nothing major changes from these first 70 chapters with either the translation, the author's writing style, or the plot of the novel then this seems like it will be a good novel to let build up a few chapters and then have a chill hour or so when you want a break, or a good way to pass a ~15min break during the day assuming the release rate is 2/day. If you're looking for your next ground breaking novel, view altering story, or Wuxia Epic then this novel probably isn't for you - this novel is for the 9-5 parents who want a small break during work or between chores, the teenagers who want something to fill the break between period or between assignments, and anyone else who just wants something to provide a benign respite in this crazy world we all live in.

So much potential, yet crash landing on delivery. As others said, fails on world building, character building, no world immersion. Just blunt trudging forward to have the character grow in power. I am also sick of all these light speed growth novels. Like mastery of 100 techniques to perfection in 40 chapters. It’s only a number, no detail, no substance. So luck be upon you dear reader who decides to go forward with this. I am at the latest chapter(48) but my journey end here. Plenty of other stories that are written by writers with either a few more neurons, a better imagination, more structure in their narative, etc, etc

Note: I'm currently at the max chapters available without sponsoring (32).

This story is unfortunately an example of a somewhat interesting concept ruined via heavily dull writing.

Starting off with a note regarding biases, I do not have bias towards the use of a System in these novels, if done well. In fact, I quite enjoy them. One of my current most-followed novels on WW is An Alchemist's Path to Eternity, which I think uses a System pretty well.

Now, into this novel.

The main character has access to a System, which through mastering martial arts and techniques, he gains "perception", effectively raising his talent in understanding martial arts. I actually quite like the concept.

The translation is done quite well, which is of no surprise to me. WW always has high quality translations, and I believe one of the translators work on the novel I mentioned above, which is done very well too.

The problem lies with the writing. It's lackluster. No translation can fix a story that has no substance. Oftentimes it feels like the kind of text I would read if someone were to take a good book and then summarize multiple chapters in a single paragraph.

I am perfectly fine with time skips, but it's done very poorly in this novel. As an example, the MC gets a new work position 3 times in these 32 chapters I've read. The description for what his job responsibilities are is non existent. You could explain this away well enough by saying that it's not important to him, but this pattern continues heavily into his martial arts studies. Everything is summarized. 3 months passed, he has mastered x y and z. He became a new disciple to x, 2 months pass. I have no idea what he's doing.

As you can likely expect based on the paragraph above, with all the summarizing, you can expect no effort in creating emotionally appealing characters. Someone dies in these 32 chapters that our MC cares about. However, we as readers are *told* that the MC cares about this person. We are not *shown*. Even looking at the MC, I have no real understanding of his personality, his likes and dislikes, etc. From the sounds of it, he's hard working and loves martial arts. That is about all I can say about him.

Overall, it's not a good read. I recommend finding a different novel, one that actually has compelling characters and a story that has life.
