If you ask me, this was the web novel of the year (or years? How do you judge a web novel that spans across multiple years again?). Nothing can top it, and probably nothing will even a long time later. Except by the author's ongoing new book maybe, but you don't count your eggs early.

The Overlord of Puluo
To save his best friend He Jiaqing’s life, he stepped onto Platform No. 96 and boarded the green-skinned train 1160. Upon arriving, he finds himself in a strange realm that resembles 1900s China, but everything runs on steam, and nothing is quite as it seems. Furthermore, he now holds an item that many covet and he must escape the claws of those hunting him.
In this land of peculiarities, there are cultivators of every kind: Wanderlust Cultivator. Homebound Cultivator, Agrarian Cultivator, Hedonism Cultivator, Gourmandism Cultivator, and so many more. Some people can grow two extra heads or can take on the forms of other creatures, while certain cultivators attach hooks to their skulls to use as telephones. There are Jianghu rules that everyone is said to follow, but can someone whose mind works differently truly obey them?
As Li Banfeng ventures deeper into this steam-powered world, questions begin to surface. How did he truly arrive here? Was his best friend really the one who summoned him to Puluo? If so, then who lies comatose in the hospital bed back home? Who is the voice within the gramophone? What other peculiarities await him in this strange land? And when his two cultivation paths finally collide, will he rise to achieve longevity, or lose himself completely to the madness of Puluo? Most importantly, is Li Banfeng… really a sane man?
Details
Li Banfeng isn't crazy. At least, that's what the doctor said. The “feng” in his name means "mountain peak," not "madness."
To save a friend's life, he steps onto Platform No. 96 and boards the steam train 1160. This train ride takes him to Puluo Province, a land frozen in the steam-powered era.
In this strange world, he meets a soulmate trapped in an old gramophone, a peerless beauty from a calendar post, a charming socialite swaying within an old tabletop pendulum clock, and an otherworldly master trapped in his own wine gourd.
Here, cultivation takes many strange forms. There are Gourmandism Cultivators who grow fiercer the more they eat, Smoking Cultivators who become stronger with every puff, Martial Cultivators who turn more ruthless with every kill, and Inebriate Cultivators who grow wilder the more they drink. There are also Wanderlust Cultivators who wish to go everywhere, and Homebound Cultivators who wish to go nowhere at all.
Among a hundred sects beneath the sky, who dares to vie for glory?
Among ten thousand cultivators of Puluo, who shall stand as the foremost?
Li Banfeng puts on his suit, tips his fedora, and lifts his feather duster.
With utmost seriousness, he asks, "Tell me. Who is the Overlord of Puluo?"

If you ask me, this was the web novel of the year (or years? How do you judge a web novel that spans across multiple years again?). Nothing can top it, and probably nothing will even a long time later. Except by the author's ongoing new book maybe, but you don't count your eggs early.
Writing: Of the bat the author has great grammar and rich ways of describing events and the translators themselves do well in conveying these ideas in english.
World Building: Without too many spoilers the World neatly ties in the cultivation system with a Harry potter like wonder where its not just tossing out complex words but actually clearly describing scenes and events and showcasing how a world would look logically based on the established rules. The Dao has Myriad paths and the overlap of all these form genuinely wondrous items and locations while answering alot of logical "Whys" that allow you to be able to assess how things should operate and pick up on foreshadowing
Characters: The Characters all have distinct personalities, habits, ways of dealing with situation and differing interests and personalities. The Banter is fun and quite comedic at times and the author has a rather modern approach to humor, being very candid and saying the silent parts out loud. The Main Character is no slop, he's very realistic and he's especially blunt. He's going to ask the important questions, dodge the dumb sidequest and indulge in his own semicrazy urges. He lives in a world of his own logic and won't bother to spin around in the palms of others.
Plot: The plot due to all the above factors is pretty great, the author has made an amazing world and unleashed Li Banfeng in it. Events feel natural like the actions of several different factions and individuals all with their own agendas overlapping and the author written in story valid reasons why things do and don't happen.
All in all I strongly recommend and welcome you all to join us Fellow Daoists.
First, the cultivation system. I'd say there is a spin to it that I quite like, the boundaries of levels are clearly written and not as loose as in other novels. Seems like everyone pretty much has the same requirement, this makes it more enjoyable for me since I am not always happy at MC randomly getting a buzz and getting a power boost. The names also cracks me up, the way to get on the cultivation journey also seems funny. It's a uniqueness I haven't seen since Xuan Clan Mirror.
Secondly, the characters. As of now, we got a smart MC, which I quite like. He's not dumb and dense, though he seems kinda pervy, in a funny way? I'm not sure. The casts looks very interesting as mentioned by XuanHearts, they don't seem to shallow but I have seen far from enough to make a concrete decision.
Thirdly, the World building. It looks like we are in for a dual realm novel, seems like there is the modern day and maybe some early-old world that can communicate. The names are quite interesting, Puluo, I am unsure as of now if there is an under meaning to it but we'll see in time.
Lastly, there seems to be an early plot-line, hard to know if this plot will drive us through the whole novel or it's plots based on volumes and then everything combines at the end. I quite like the duality of the different factions fighting between the two realms, both have different name convention and they seem to be clashing. We are only introduced vaguely about the "villains" at the start but I already quite liked where this is going, doesn't seem to be some braindead antagonists like seen in some novels.. *cough cough* NSHBA.....
