I generally don't leave reviews this early on but I wanted to make an exception for this novel.

I'm usually a Xianxia reader. I rarely read Xuanhuan's as I feel like most Chinese writers don't write them well. I don't read modern setting novels as well as they're kind of boring (for me) but this novel is one of the few that managed to change my perception.

First, the story is interesting. Second, and most importantly, it is written well (and translated well). The author's writing style is actually pretty nice and its very easy to follow along.

There are some formatting issues that the TL needs to clean up but the novel just launched and I'm sure those small, inconsequential niggles will be sorted out in due time.

I don't want to give you a traditional review where I expound on the story and the kind of MC this novel has. Read the novel for yourself and make your own judgement.

I just came here to say that the fundamentals are strong and it's a good novel to invest your time in (from reading till chapter 20).

First of all, yes, this novel is worth reading—unless you absolutely detest the harem genre. And when I say harem, I mean those scenes that make you feel like you're watching a 2010 ecchi anime.

Realm Walker holds the number two spot on Qidian, ranking right behind Lord of the Mysteries (LOTM) in terms of numbers—a position I consider well-deserved. I say this even though I dropped the web novel multiple times before finally managing to finish it. The reason for my back-and-forth was precisely the harem. In the beginning, the dynamic isn't that annoying: there are plenty of double entendres, and the protagonist, Zhang Yuanqing, playfully flirts with several female characters who are, in fact, quite charismatic. The problem is that a different attractive woman is introduced every few chapters. Over time, the protagonist ends up surrounded by a crowd of women, and I couldn't care less about two-thirds of them.

Honestly, the story would be 300% better without this element. The sexual jokes and the sheer excess of MILFs end up ruining the mood in moments that are supposed to be serious.

On the other hand, the worldbuilding and magic system in Realm Walker are genuinely incredible. Zhang Yuanqing's powers are excellent, and the author is extremely competent at using them creatively, building remarkable arcs and moments.

The ultimate truth is that Realm Walker isn't perfect far from it. The Chinese community, for instance, absolutely hates the final third of the story (though I found it just "okay"). Despite its flaws, it's a book filled with fun moments and creative arcs. If you start reading with no exaggerated expectations and knowing exactly what you're getting into, it becomes a highly enjoyable experience.

Love the worldbuilding and power system so far! The author has a rare talent for making a city setting feel much bigger and much more action-packed that it should be. Also really enjoy the interactions between characters, though the relationship between the MC and his family does seem to get a bit redundant at times. Filler filler filler filler filler filler. I enjoy the supernatural/horror aspect of the story as well, and considering what class the MC is, can definitely expect more horror-themed story arcs coming soon. Filler filler filler filler filler filler. Long review short, I like the story, and I trust that people can form their own opinions if they give it a read.
