I must say, I'm genuinely surprised to see this work getting an official translation. I’ve read a good chunk of it in Mandarin, and while it’s far from being one of Qidian's most popular titles, it definitely carved out a niche for fans of that specific sci-fi/fantasy blend where technology goes head-to-head with magic and mysticism.
The world-building is a mix of Xianxia and Wuxia, as the translator noted in the synopsis.
However, the real highlight isn't just the protagonist exploring marvelous martial arts (though he certainly does that); it’s how he uses technology—specifically military hardware—to show the cultivators of this world that "immortality" is a myth when there's a high-caliber cannon pointed at your face.
That said, the work is far from perfect. There are stretches where the pacing becomes so glacial it’s more exciting to watch a 90-year-old tortoise eat cabbage. But, if you’re a die-hard consumer of this genre like I am, you’ll stick with it despite the flaws because you know how rare these stories are becoming. The upside is that this one isn't bad at all. If you have the patience, you’ll be rewarded with a healthy dose of giant weapons, mechs, robots, and enough explosions to send your dopamine levels through the roof. :D
