Desperate pleas for the Heavens to spare the remains of one's child ripple through tears of blood. The profound workings of fate stresses the world to its limits, sparking beacons that herald the quelling of chaos.

First, An Jing sold himself to a demonic cult for medicine to heal his mother. Then, he found an unlikely ally: a disembodied voice coming from within a rusty sword. The demonic cult was up to something, but neither of them quite knew what.

Enter a world ravaged by fiends in the distant past and mountains of unending snow in the present, a world of warring nations and sects of the martial path, the world of Void Embrace. With his sword-soul companion's help, An Jing is able to slip into another world entirely: a world with the lost art of immortal qi cultivation with advanced technologies and soulless corporations that try to wipe out the competition by any means necessary.

I must say, I'm genuinely surprised to see this work getting an official translation. I’ve read a good chunk of it in Mandarin, and while it’s far from being one of Qidian's most popular titles, it definitely carved out a niche for fans of that specific sci-fi/fantasy blend where technology goes head-to-head with magic and mysticism.

The world-building is a mix of Xianxia and Wuxia, as the translator noted in the synopsis.

However, the real highlight isn't just the protagonist exploring marvelous martial arts (though he certainly does that); it’s how he uses technology—specifically military hardware—to show the cultivators of this world that "immortality" is a myth when there's a high-caliber cannon pointed at your face.

That said, the work is far from perfect. There are stretches where the pacing becomes so glacial it’s more exciting to watch a 90-year-old tortoise eat cabbage. But, if you’re a die-hard consumer of this genre like I am, you’ll stick with it despite the flaws because you know how rare these stories are becoming. The upside is that this one isn't bad at all. If you have the patience, you’ll be rewarded with a healthy dose of giant weapons, mechs, robots, and enough explosions to send your dopamine levels through the roof. :D

I like it so far, I reached the end of the 20 chapters available very quickly and it did give of a pretty good vibe so far as far as how the main character acts as well as the development so far. The inner dialogue goes well along with whats actually happening rather than think one thing and do something else entirely different. I am interested to see where it goes and I hope that it continues for a long time since one of my daily readers is getting close to finishing according to rumors that is. Hope this review helps

WRITING QUALITY: 5/5

-The quality of writing is superb in my opinion. Through the MCs internal contemplation and real life events we see how events are unfolding. At no point did I feel like I couldn't understand what was said beyond the usually cultivation language that makes up certain techniques and the worlds mysticism.

-Translation is smooth throughout so far. I've seen the translator in the comments responding to errors positively more often then not which is good. Only one times stuck out to me where I thought it was a mistake which emphasized to me how good the quality of writing is otherwise.

STABLITY UPDATES: -/-

-As of writing this review I read 3 new chapters that were released in a day. Will this be the norm? Who knows since authors usually have a consistent flow in the beginning.

CHARACTERS: 5/5

MAIN CHARACTER

-This MC is one of my favorites in all of my Wuxia reading both in starting personality and how hes developed so far. I've noticed 5 different sources sculpting the MC up till this point I want to elaborate on to an extent (no major spoilers) showing how great the character development is.

1) Present Life: From what were told hes grown up in a family that has principles. Principles he talks about explicitly and implicitly through his actions. This is shown with how he treats his mother and the choices his dad made in his upbringing. Only good things to be said so far.

2) Past life: Pretty vague as it normally is this early. The feeling is like memories constantly bleeding into his subconscious causing him to see and act with some of the morals and knowledge not of this world to an extent. That being said I emphasize vague because he mentions some things here and there however he doesn't standout as someone not of this world to others. If fact the cultivation system helps integrate having a past life instead of him being unique in this respect.

3) Environment: Mentioned in the bio he sold himself to a demonic cult however its not so straight forward at first which I appreciate. Now imagine being in an environment with a cult. In what ways would they bring you to there side? Meaning what would they provide in order to engraciate you to want to become one of them? How would you feel about those benefits if they contrast with some of the more demonic elements? It's quite exciting!

4) Responsibilities to others: I wont say how or why however this contributes to why he makes certain choices developing into a great MC.

5) The "disembodied voice" really helps out the MC like a mentor when they connect together. I've enjoyed it and hope you guys will to.

Lastly to contrast this with another MC from the novel "Beyond the Timescape" I like this guy more. Why? The other MC from the beginning felt like he was mostly developed from the beginning with some refinement here and there throughout the story. This MC has a solid foundation like I mentioned above however because of his age and the environment hes constantly questioning his principles and refining them again and again.

SIDE CHARACTERS:

-All the side characters whether there close to the MC, part of the cult, or a part of the group he's with all play an integral role to the story. It can't be understated how important they are to the MCs character development.

PLOT: 5/5

I find this novel has what I call 3 Levels of plot unfolding which makes the plotline comprehensive.

-The Overarching Plot: The story is setup with a typical overarching context of the world having gone through a past calamity changing how people practice cultivation. The author does a great job of introducing this without lore dumping leaving you intrigued by what happened. It may or my not be like long novels "Nine Hegemon" "Martial God Asura" so I cant speak to that yet.

-Mid Plots: Smaller then overarching plots like wanting to reunite with his mom are introduced keeping you feel like the story will have many ways of connecting you to the greater world which I appreciate.

-The immediate circumstances within the cult keep you on the edge. Thanks to the 2 other plot levels you won't want to stop reading like I have.

-Lastly the pacing is neither too slow or fast so if you like that your in luck.

WORLD BUILDING: 5/5

-Through the characters the world is becoming clearer but still largely a mystery. No world dumping that feels out of place.

Overall I highly recommend you give this novel a shot.
